Develop Simple Web Sites

The simple web site that earns me a $50 increase in my income every month is Cheap Long Distance Rates Calculator (http://www.cheap-long-distance.us).

It's simple. No Macromedia Flash. No Javascript. No Java applets.

It is not designed to be beautiful. It's designed to load fast and work on every browser. It's designed to sell cheap long distance.

The site is also designed to get good placement in search engines. (Go right now to Google and type in "cheap long distance" and see where my site is in the search results. Look also at the number of sites I'm competing with.)

There are three tasks you need to accomplish to successfully sell on the web:

• Select a product to sell
• Craft your site to sell the product
• Build traffic to your site

Most anyone in a web developer job can do this.

As a web developer, you're probably thinking that you could design a similar site and make as much money, if not more, than I make.

The truth is, you probably can. And you can do so by selling a product you develop or by selling someone else's product.

Affiliate programs allow you to sell someone else's products and get commissions.

An affiliate program usually consists of:

• a product (or a number of products),
• sales and marketing tools,
• some training, and
• a tracking system that records the sales you help make.
